Scanning

How does scanning work?

Photograph a printed page, or pick a photo you already have. The photo goes to our server, which finds the staves and reads the notes. A page usually takes 15–40 seconds. The photo is deleted from the server as soon as the page has been read, and the result goes into your library, which lives on your phone.

Several pages in a row become one piece that plays straight through.

What does it read well?

Clean printed parts with one melody per staff: a violin etude, a flute or clarinet part, a choir line, a page from a method book. On a page with several staves, like a quartet score, pick your part and play it louder than the others or on its own. For the best result, lay the page flat, use even light and get the whole page in the frame.

What won't it read?

Two voices sharing one staff won't come out right. Handwritten manuscript and tablature aren't supported. It is best on single parts, one melody per staff. It reads piano too: beginner and intermediate pieces work best.

Do I need an internet connection?

To read a new page, yes: recognition runs on our server. Scores already in your library play offline: they stay on your phone, and the instrument sounds come with the app.

It got a note or a rhythm wrong. What can I do?

A small dot marks a bar that doesn't add up. Tap it to hear that bar on a loop and compare it with your photo. Where the app has other likely rhythms for the bar, it plays them one after another and you keep the one that sounds right.

If a page came out badly, please tell us: in the score, tap ⋯ and then Report a bad result, or go to Settings and Report a recognition error. It sends the photo, what was read and your note, only when you confirm. Reports are how recognition gets better.

Free and Pro

What is free, and what does Pro add?

Free lets you try it on your own pages, with everything else: playback, tempo, loops, count-in and click, transposition, fixing a bar by ear, share links and the transposed PDF (with a small ScoreLens line).

Pro adds unlimited pages, MIDI and MusicXML export, practice audio (a WAV at your tempo and key), a speed trainer, and PDFs without the ScoreLens line. There are two plans, Yearly and Lifetime (paid once). Prices are shown in the app, in your currency, before you buy.

How do the free trial and cancelling work?

The Yearly plan starts with a 14-day free trial for new subscribers. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are not charged. After that the subscription renews each year until you cancel. Lifetime is a single payment, so there is nothing to cancel.

iPhone: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then ScoreLens. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or the year ends.
Android: open Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then ScoreLens.
As a Pro subscriber you can also use Settings, then Manage subscription, in ScoreLens.

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own rules.

I bought Pro. How do I get it back on a new phone?

Sign in to the same Apple ID or Google account, open ScoreLens, go to Settings and tap Restore purchase. ScoreLens has no accounts, so a purchase made on iPhone doesn't carry over to Android, or the other way round. If restoring doesn't work, write to hello@scorelens.app.

Sharing and teachers

What's a practice track?

In a score, tap the share icon, then "Send practice track" for a short audio file at your current tempo and key, with a link, ready to drop into a text or WhatsApp message. It's free, and the fastest way to hand a student or bandmate something they can listen to right away.

The first time you send one for a piece, ScoreLens asks you to confirm you have the right to share it, since the audio comes with a link anyone can open. Only the notes go out, never your photo.

How do share links work?

In a score, tap the share icon and create a playable link. Anyone with the link can play the part, slow it down and change its key in a web browser, or open it in ScoreLens. Opening a shared part doesn't use the recipient's free pages.

Only the notes go up, never your photo. The link works for 30 days, then the notes are deleted. You can stop sharing sooner from the same place, or from Library, then Shared, and the link stops working at once. Share only music you are allowed to share: public domain, your own, or with permission — the app asks you to confirm that before the first link for a piece.

How do I get a teacher code?

Write to hello@scorelens.app with your studio name. The quickest way: open Settings in ScoreLens and use Contact support, which adds your Support code to the email for you. We reply with a six-character code.

Your students enter the code in Settings, then Teacher code, and get 30 days of Pro. While we pilot this, your own Pro is free as long as at least five of your students are using a code.

Privacy

What happens to my photos and my library?

There is no account and no advertising. Each photo is deleted from the server as soon as the page has been read. Your library stays on your phone and is never uploaded, except the notes of a part you choose to share. The app sends anonymous usage events, which you can switch off in Settings. The privacy policy has the details.
